Open Water Swimming

Outdoor, open water or wild swimming has huge benefits for your health and wellbeing. People swim in Clevedon Marine Lake all year round. But it is very different from pool swimming and it is a good idea to learn how to do it safely.

Our coaches can help you learn how to swim safely, how to dip for better mental health, how to train for events and triathlons, and how to improve your technique to swim further and faster.

All our coaches are fully qualified and insured. Please book directly with the coach of your choice.

I believe in coaching swimmers as opposed to teaching people how to swim. I specialise and have many years of experience in working to improve the speed and efficiency of swimmers and triathletes, from youth age upwards and across all distances (including solo channel swims). My coaching style is very much focused on the psychology of the sport as well the training – enabling you to feel valued, to have a sense of achievement and enjoyment from their swim whilst achieving results.

Global Swim Adventures was started by two friends looking to share their love of one water swimming with people new to the sport. Whether you’re looking to try open water swimming for the first time or a seasoned swimmer looking for coaching tips, We have sessions that cater for all needs.

Breathe, swim, be.

Swimoga is breathwork, stretches and yoga, the breath linking to the body, and providing us with that reset of calm, in and out of the water.

Yoga means to ‘yoke’, bring together. Stretching and breathing and dipping / swimming, feels like a natural partnership. Every good yoga session starts with the breath, every perfect swim has breath as its building blocks. Breathing is at the heart of the way I coach on land and in the water.

Open Minds is a social impact organisation involving a collective of like-minded people who enjoy helping others to connect with nature and access the outdoors. Our team of staff and volunteers include open water swim coaches, yoga teachers, community & youth workers and general all-around good souls, passionate about creating a fun community where everyone is welcome.

For fun, fitness and adventure on the water, there’s no better place to learn than at Clevedon Marine Lake. It’s a safe, contained space free of currents and tides. And that makes it a great place to learn to sail, canoe, kayak or paddleboard.

You are welcome to bring your own canoe, kayak or paddleboard, but nothing beats learning from an expert. Our clubs will teach you how to handle your craft and have lots of fun on the way.

All our coaches, clubs and organisations are fully qualified and insured. Please book directly.

Clevedon Marine Active is about fun on the water in kayaks, canoes and on paddleboards. We run sessions for lots of organisations including cubs, beavers, brownies and scouts as well as birthday parties for children and adults.  In the warmer months, we run holidays clubs during the morning and afternoon. Get the best out of your paddling with coaching from Clevedon Marine Active.

Clevedon Marine Lake is a great space to come along and try out canoeing and kayaking. If you are new to kayaking or coming back to the sport, you can come along to our advertised Starter Lake Sessions, usually once a month during the warmer months. There is a small charge to use our paddling equipment, which is reinvested into equipment maintenance and renewal. We have a wide range of boats available, from kids kayaks to Open Canoes. The sessions are run voluntarily by experienced Coaches and Activity Assistants, who will be able to help you get started.

We run Club paddling sessions at Clevedon Marine Lake from mid-Spring through mid-Autumn, weather permitting.

We are a club serving the South of Bristol and North Somerset. Founded on 11th October 1987 (at an inaugural meeting of 27 people at the Coach House pub in Locking), we now have over 160 members and enjoy general recreational paddling on placid water, white water and the sea.

Whoever you are you will enjoy paddling with us, making new friends on or off the water, come sun, wind, rain or snow!!!

We welcome anyone and everyone including individuals, families and accompanied children. SACC is a club for people looking to paddle with friends old and new, whether you are a beginner starting out and wanting to develop your skills or an experienced paddler looking to have fun and make new friends.

Stand up paddleboarding (SUP) is currently the fastest growing sport in the world today – and once you’ve tried it for yourself you’ll see why. SUP doesn’t require large amounts intensive dry land instruction before you get a chance to get on the water.

Whether you’d like to start learning this fun sport on your own – or in a group of friends, family or colleagues – we can cater for you. Our instructors will provide sessions from 1.5 to 3 hours in length, either teaching you one-to-one or teaching groups of up to ten at a time. We will take you through the basics of stand up paddleboarding until you’re Supping with confidence on our Taster Session. Then, if you choose, you can book further progression lessons on our Safe Paddler Award Course or join SUP Bath Paddleboarders.

SUP Bristol is the award-winning home of stand up paddleboarding in Bristol. We’re bringing SUP Yoga sessions to Clevedon Marine Lake.

Between the team, we’ve paddled on four continents, from the raging whitewater of the White Nile to New Zealand’s tranquil fjords. We’re highly qualified and passionate about sharing our love for the water.
